Adventure Time
So last night I was scrolling through the channels on the Directtv Channel Guide on satellite. Scrolling past Cartoon Network, I saw the title ‘Adventure time’. I remembered from a long while back a short on the internet by the same name. While I had liked the short and thought it was really funny, I didn’t think they would make a mainstream cartoon out of it. Even if they did, I thought it would be just another one of those kids’ shows. I was wrong on both accounts.
This show made me literally laugh out loud for several minutes at a time. The authors of the show have managed to mesh randomness with storytelling in a very comedic way. Like the title suggests, each episode tells of an adventure of Finn the Human and Jake the Dog. Whether it be rescuing princesses from the grip of the Ice King, or searching for a cure to the Lumpy disease, their adventures are funny, but engaging at the same time.
I was also surprised by the maturity level of some of the content. There is nothing really bad, but it certainly exceeds the level of many other original Cartoon Network cartoons. It is the first quality cartoon I have seen in a while, and I really hope it succeeds. It is a lot better than a lot of the stuff cartoons have been putting out recently.
