The 1980’s may have been the decade that fashion forgot, with huge shoulder pads, New Romantic flouncy and frilly shirts and the BIG hair look, but, the ‘80’s did herald new and exciting opportunities on other fronts.

Although the first successful portable computer (remember the name laptop did not exist prior to 1983), the Osborne 1 created by Adam Osborne was introduced in 1981, many of today’s top branded names began focusing on mobile computing needs. HP brought out its own laptop in this period and being one of the major technological based companies in the world, they still operate (very successfully, thank you) in this market today.
Originally mobile phones and laptops were considered the playthings of the elite because of their high cost and, in the case of portable computers, their limited functionality.
Thankfully with advances in technology and mass production of the parts required for these mobile and computing innovations there are now cheap laptops and mobile phones to suit everyone’s desires.
In fact, the hugely popular Taiwanese electronics manufacturers started life providing microprocessors and electronic parts for computers before turning its own attention to this market. Acer has now built their business into one of the largest computer companies in the world and has built its considerable reputation on cheap laptop and notebook options for personal and business applications.
Toshiba, a name trusted throughout the field of electronics has produced computers and laptops that will providing top spec qualities and realistic pricing for their portable and desktop computing that keeps it, firmly, in the top five PC businesses in the world.
The power suits, leg warmers, padded shoulders and glamour make-up and other fashion disasters of the 1980’s have all disappeared into the mists of time (what do you mean they are coming back?), along with why we cared who shot JR, who were Blake, Alexis and Sable and what or who were New Romantics, but that laptops and mobile phones increased in demand and became cheaper for us all otherwise how would we keep up with all the latest trends in the new millennia?
